A general C-Value Formula: mathematical analysis

Huen, Y. K.

Abstract
The C-Value Paradox states that the amount of DNA in an organism is not related to its evolutionary complexity. Evolutonary complexity is a vague term which cannot be precisely quantified. To overcome this problem, the author proposes to replace evolutionary complexity by phyllum complexity Y which is defined as a function of two new variables viz., P the phyllum index and Q the C-Value ranking of organisms within a phyllum. P has a range from 1 to 18 whilst Q has a range from 0 to 1. With these substitutions, the C-Value statement should be restated as follows: The amount of DNA in an organism is related to its phyllum complexity. The above relation can be developed as a general C-Value Formula given by: Y = K(P,Q) = (0.00109*Q + 0.00259)*P^3 - (0.03642*Q + 0.09309)*P^2 + (0.51213*q + 1.38475)*P - 0.2264*Q + 12.0122 This above formula is found to have considerable predictive power which could provide plausible explanations on several puzzling questions in bioevolution.
