| In this paper the motion of the double pendulum is studied. By extending the linear equivalence method (LEM) formulated by Toma [1] to the analysis of the nonlinear system of equations that govern the motion of the double pendulum, the solutions are represented as a linear superposition of Coulomb vibrations. A comparison with the numerical solutions obtained with the fourth-order Runge-Kutta scheme is performed. The analytical solutions allow a qualitative and quantitative analysis not only of the quasi-periodic behavior but also of the chaotic behavior of the pendulum. | |
