Towards Combining Artificially Alive and Artificially Intelligent Agents Neven T. Tomov
Abstract
	The paper suggests a way of combining a set of ideas from the fields of Artificial Life and Artificial Intelligence as a means of understanding (and possibly modelling) the interactions among cognitive, living systems, such as, for example, members of a family. One set of ideas (from Artificial Life) is concerned with the notions of self-reference and operational closure employed in the study of living systems, while the other (from Artificial Intelligence) is concerned with the interactions between perceptual and conceptual activity, which are crucial to cognitive modelling. The two sets of ideas are combined in the context of a system of interacting cognitive agents, inspired by the notion of a story-maintaining system.
